The WNBA recently convened a task force to address a pivotal question: what defines a woman? This meeting comes in response to recent actions by Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham, who has actively worked to safeguard women’s sports. Former NBA players, Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, have also announced intentions to join the 2027 WNBA Draft.

Despite these discussions, the WNBA’s leadership, under Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, failed to reach a consensus. The league attributed the outcome to external negativity and planned further meetings to revisit the issue.

NBA Scheduling Sparks Discontent

The League’s Priorities

While Haliburton raised valid points, the league appears more focused on marquee games involving top-tier teams from the start. The opening night will feature high-profile matchups, including LeBron and the 76ers playing against the reigning champions Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
