Wisconsin Primary Highlights Socialist Challenge

The Democratic primary in Wisconsin is shaping up to be a notable contest. Former Governor Scott Walker recently discussed the dynamics of this primary, focusing on the establishment candidates and Francesca Hong, backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). During a conversation with Harris Faulkner, Walker examined Hong’s progressive policies, including her contentious ‘cancel Thanksgiving’ post.

Hong, currently serving as a state representative, has been vocal about wanting America to transition from a place of suffering to one of opportunity. Notably, she advocates for equal rights and representation for Black and Brown individuals, stating that if elected, she would push for significant changes in governance.

This isn’t the first time the DSA candidate has faced scrutiny for past comments on social media that are especially critical of America and its institutions and ideals.

One of Hong’s past social media posts, now deleted, suggested canceling Thanksgiving, describing it as a celebration of colonialism and a superspreader event that harmed indigenous populations. Despite controversies, Hong, a former chef, is running for the Democratic nomination for governor. She is part of a larger movement of socialist candidates challenging establishment figures within the Democratic Party.

Additionally, Hong has faced criticism for her candid remarks on race. In 2019, she expressed discomfort among White individuals, which sparked debate. Her views on police reform have also drawn attention. Hong was outspoken after the decision not to press charges in the Jacob Blake shooting case. She advocated for defunding and abolishing police forces, stating that police maintain White supremacy.

Hong’s spokesperson reaffirmed her stance on police and prison abolition as aspirational goals, likening them to eradicating disease or poverty. While Hong acknowledges the limitations of gubernatorial power in defunding police, she remains steadfast in her values and refrains from retracting past statements.

Despite scrutiny over her social media history, Hong emphasized her focus on voter issues in the upcoming primary. Her campaign declined to provide further comments to Fox News Digital regarding recent controversies.
