Washington — President Trump has announced that Will Scharf, his current aide responsible for managing information, paperwork, and executive orders, will be the next White House counsel. Scharf will take over from David Warrington, who is transitioning to the private sector, effective September 1. This announcement was made by the president on Truth Social.

Scharf’s primary role in the White House involves delivering executive orders to President Trump and providing explanations of the documents he signs. Additionally, Scharf serves as the chair of the National Capital Planning Commission, overseeing projects such as the president’s triumphal arch.

Scharf, now 40, is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a law degree from Harvard University Law School. Between 2020 and 2022, he worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in Missouri, focusing on prosecuting violent crimes.

The position of White House counsel involves providing in-house legal advice to the president and the president’s team. Scharf’s appointment occurs shortly before the midterm elections, which carry potential implications for Congress’ balance of power. In 2019, following the Democrats’ acquisition of the House, President Trump and his team faced a surge of subpoenas and investigations, culminating in his first impeachment.

This announcement of Scharf’s appointment followed the Senate’s confirmation of Todd Blanche, the president’s former personal defense attorney, as U.S. attorney general.
