US Relief Efforts Following Venezuela Earthquakes
Secretary Rubio, speaking from Manama, Bahrain, outlined the United States’ response to the earthquakes that recently devastated Venezuela. He detailed the immediate deployment of search and rescue teams, medical resources, and humanitarian aid to address the crisis. Rubio emphasized the urgency of these efforts, highlighting the commitment of President Donald Trump to provide support and collaborate with international partners for Venezuela’s recovery and stability.
Military Support and Logistics
The US military has been actively involved in delivering aid to Venezuela. The final batch of ten U.S. Marine Corps Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVRs) has arrived to assist earthquake victims. On Friday, a C-17 Globemaster from the US Air Force completed the transport of these vehicles to facilitate relief operations.
MTVRs are instrumental in helping local communities by providing essential logistics support. U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) is overseeing these efforts, ensuring the distribution of urgent assistance to affected areas.
Coordination and Assistance Delivery
The Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Center (HACC) is operational at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas. Here, US military personnel are working with local and international agencies to coordinate disaster relief measures effectively.
Vertical-lift and rotary-wing aircraft from the Marine, Navy, and Army branches are being used for airlift operations. These aircraft are delivering pre-packaged meals and other necessities to survivors and displaced residents.
The USS Fort Lauderdale remains stationed at the Port of La Guaira, serving as a crucial communication hub and distribution center for aid.
Financial and Personnel Mobilization
The Trump administration has allocated $150 million in humanitarian aid to assist with the crisis. A Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) has been deployed, comprising over 250 members, including three Urban Search-and-Rescue (USAR) teams.
The natural disaster has tragically resulted in nearly 2,000 fatalities, with efforts continuing to manage the aftermath and provide relief.
