Universal Orlando Resort’s Lost Continent, a renowned themed land at Islands of Adventure, is beginning a phased closure after being a staple attraction for over 25 years. Demolition has commenced, as evidenced by news footage showing machinery clearing the area.
A spokesperson from Universal Orlando informed Fox News Digital that venues in the Lost Continent would close gradually to pave the way for new developments. The Mythos Restaurant will remain open until 2027 as part of this closure process.
In the coming months, venues and experiences within Lost Continent will permanently close in phases to make way for a new themed area.
Opened in 1999, the Lost Continent featured stunning mythology-inspired designs and storytelling based on ancient legends. It provided a mix of adventure, innovative effects, and live entertainment, housing fan-favorite attractions such as the Dueling Dragons roller coasters. These coasters were re-themed in 2010 to align with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion.
Peculiar water tunnel effects and live-action performances made Poseidon’s Fury a standout attraction. However, the land has seen gradual changes over the past decade with iconic elements disappearing. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure now occupies the site where Dragon Challenge used to stand, highlighting ongoing transformations.
Despite the phased closure, the famed Mythos Restaurant will continue operations until 2027. The resort aims to enhance its offerings with new attractions, including a major roller coaster, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, set to debut in 2027.
Universal has also temporarily closed the Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida. The new production will feature classic and modern horror themes, promising engaging surprises.
The imminent disappearance of the Lost Continent evokes varied reactions among park visitors, with some expressing gratitude for the updates while others lament the end of an era. As changes unfold, guests continue to enjoy other attractions within the park, keeping Universal Orlando a dynamic and evolving entertainment destination.
