Tunnel to Towers Returns Steel Beam to Ground Zero

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, led by CEO Frank Siller and his nephew Stephen Siller Jr., paid tribute to September 11 heroes by returning a World Trade Center steel beam to Ground Zero. This act retraced the steps of firefighter Stephen Siller, who took his final journey through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel.

“Together, they carried Stephen’s memory, his legacy, and the promise that his sacrifice – like so many others – would Never Be Forgotten,” the Tunnel to Towers Foundation stated in a press release.

Tunnel to Towers: Honoring a Heroic Legacy

Frank Siller and his family honored Stephen Siller, a 34-year-old firefighter, husband, and father, on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. After learning of the attacks, Stephen Siller ran through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel with his gear, heading to the Twin Towers and sacrificing his life.

The charity’s “Steel Across America” tour involved moving a steel beam from the Twin Towers around the U.S. Over several months, leading up to Friday’s event. Communities across the nation gathered around the beam to remember 9/11, honor first responders and veterans, and teach younger generations about that day’s significance. The tour covered over 10,500 miles, making nearly 40 stops in 21 states.

A Personal Connection Through Generations

Stephen Siller Jr. was only nine months old when his father passed. During an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” he expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s support in preserving his father’s memory. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation continually hosts events nationwide to honor Stephen Siller’s legacy. “Every day we’re helping somebody in his name,” he remarked, acknowledging this ongoing tribute as a profound gift.

The Foundational Mission: “Do Good”

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established in Stephen Siller’s honor and maintains a dedicated mission to “do good.” The charity provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and fallen first responders’ families with young children. It also constructs specially adapted smart homes for severely injured veterans and first responders.

The Foundation ensures education for home recipients’ children by offering full scholarships for undergraduate and trade school programs. Committed to addressing veteran homelessness, the organization also helps keep the memory of September 11, 2001, alive in America. This work continues as a vital part of Siller’s enduring legacy.
