Mike Lindell, a candidate supported by former President Donald Trump, lost in Minnesota’s gubernatorial primary. This marks the third loss for Trump-backed candidates in governor’s races this year. Other losses include Rep. Randy Feenstra in Iowa and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in Georgia.
In South Carolina, Trump avoided an outright loss by endorsing both Alan Wilson and Lt. Gov. Pam Evette, who went to a runoff. Alan Wilson eventually won the primary. Additionally, Rep. Andy Ogles, supported by Trump, lost his primary in Tennessee the previous week.
Despite these setbacks, Trump’s endorsement remains powerful in Republican primaries. Over 200 of his preferred candidates have won their contests this year. This includes around two dozen candidates that NBC News projected as winners in recent primaries.
Trump’s endorsements are broad, covering nearly every Republican in Congress, many of whom do not face tough primaries.
Meanwhile, State House Speaker Lisa Demuth secured the Republican nomination for Minnesota governor, defeating Trump-backed businessman Mike Lindell. Demuth will challenge Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar in the general election.
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won the Democratic Senate primary in Minnesota, defeating moderate Rep. Angie Craig. Her victory reflects ongoing support for progressive candidates within her party.
Amanda Janoo, an economist, emerged victorious in Vermont’s Democratic primary for governor. She will compete against the incumbent Republican, Gov. Phil Scott, in the general election.
Wisconsin experienced a close race between Hong and Crowley, with Hong slightly leading as the count neared completion.
Rebecca Cooke won the Democratic primary in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, setting up a rematch against GOP Rep. Derrick Van Orden, whom she came close to defeating in 2024.
Michael Alfonso, endorsed by Trump, won Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District Republican primary. The seat was left open by Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is pursuing a gubernatorial bid.
The Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor remains tightly contested, with results yet to be announced.
