A routine traffic stop turned violent when, according to police, a suspect drove off with an officer trapped inside his car and another officer dragged alongside the vehicle. This incident occurred over the weekend in Eustis, Florida.

Eustis Police reported that during a traffic stop early Saturday morning, suspect Shakoi Donovan, 28, drove away with an officer stuck in the driver’s side of his vehicle. Another officer was dragged 10 to 15 feet along the road. Body camera footage from the officers shows the chaotic scene as Donovan sped off with them still in the car.

“The officer can be seen lying on the ground in another officer’s bodycam video.”

The situation began when officers pulled Donovan over, suspecting he was driving under the influence. A police report noted that a silver Infiniti was seen weaving over a yellow line. Two officers tried to physically remove Donovan from his vehicle after he allegedly refused requests to get out. As they reached into the vehicle, Donovan sped away with the officers still engaged.

Donovan, 28, now faces several charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, and resisting with violence. He was arrested previously on charges such as aggravated assault, burglary, and battery. As of Friday, Donovan remains in jail, with a court appearance scheduled for August 24.

During the incident, one officer was pinned between Donovan and the steering wheel. The second officer was dragged by the vehicle, “sending him tumbling across the S. Eustis Street asphalt,” as the police report described. He was treated for his injuries.
