The family of Daniel Erving, an 18-year-old honor student from Texas, is demanding murder charges following the recovery of his body from a lake near Dallas. Police accused two teenagers of concealing evidence rather than reporting his drowning. Erving was last seen on April 13 after leaving his home in Rowlett without his driver’s license or money, only carrying his cellphone. Authorities found his body near Lake Ray Hubbard’s Paddle Point area three days later. The Dallas County Medical Examiner ruled Erving’s death an accidental drowning.

The police investigation included witness interviews, evidence collection, and coordination with the Medical Examiner’s Office. Despite determining the cause and manner of death as accidental drowning, investigators found that two individuals at the lake failed to report the incident and later discarded Erving’s belongings. Arrest warrants were issued for Lucas Roper, 19, and a juvenile suspect, both charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a third-degree felony.

The family believes there are unanswered questions about the teen’s death, urging for a thorough investigation. They demand transparency and accountability, along with the pursuit of additional charges if evidence supports them. Family attorney Sean Daredia expressed skepticism about the accidental drowning ruling, asking why clothing was hidden and cell phone discarded. He called for the case to be presented to a grand jury and for homicide charges if justified.

Erving’s mother and sister shared their concerns, questioning the disposal of his belongings and the lack of immediate communication with the family. They emphasize the need for accountability and justice. The family’s criticism extends to the delay between Erving’s disappearance and arrests. The Rowlett Police Department initially handled the disappearance before the Dallas Police Department, which has jurisdiction over the death, took on the investigation.
