Three teenagers sustained injuries Monday night near a large assembly of teens at 57th Street Beach in Chicago’s Hyde Park. This incident occurred amid heightened vigilance by anti-violence workers and police during seasonal gatherings.

Chicago police reported that an 18-year-old man and two 19-year-old men were among those present around 10 p.m. on the 1600 block of East 55th Street when gunfire erupted. The 18-year-old suffered a hand injury and was transported to UChicago Medicine, where his condition was described as stable. One 19-year-old was shot in the leg and likewise taken to the hospital, where he remained in stable condition.

The third individual sustained a gunshot wound to the right hip and independently arrived at UChicago Medicine, also in stable condition. Police have yet to determine if the gathering constituted a ‘teen takeover’ at the beach, referring to it solely as a large assembly.

No arrests have been made, and detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
