Team USA Clinches Gold in FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup

Team USA continued its dominance in women’s basketball by securing a gold medal against France, winning 97-79. Breanna Stewart, Jackie Young, and Caitlin Clark were instrumental in the victory, which marked the fifth consecutive gold medal for Team USA in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and the seventh in the last eight tournaments.

The U.S. team faced a challenging first half but came back strong in the third quarter, outscoring France 30-12. This decisive run helped cement their win. Breanna Stewart led the charge with a double-double, scoring 22 points and securing 10 rebounds. Her performance on the court was pivotal, shooting 70% from the field. Stewart’s efforts earned her the MVP title for the tournament.

Jackie Young contributed 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists. On the floor, she was plus-15 and shot 50% from the field, earning her the player of the game recognition. Caitlin Clark also played a crucial role off the bench, contributing essential points and making significant plays when the starters needed a rest.

Despite France’s strong start, with players like Dominique Malonga and Gabby Williams leading their team, they struggled in the third quarter. Malonga and Williams scored 21 and 20 points, respectively. However, no other French player reached double figures, highlighting their reliance on these key players.

Team USA’s victory extends their record to 12 gold medals in international tournaments, showcasing their continued global dominance. This achievement comes as young players such as Clark, Paige Bueckers, and Angel Reese emerge as essential assets to the team’s success.

As the players celebrate this victory, attention now turns to the upcoming WNBA playoffs. The team’s ability to balance international success with domestic league commitments underscores their dedication and skill.
