Vita Vea, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ nose tackle, has expressed frustration with his contract situation and requested a trade just before the team’s training camp. Despite being under contract until 2026, Vea is looking for a move, according to a league source.

Vea, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, believes his current pay does not reflect his performance. He ranks as the 19th-highest-paid interior defensive lineman, yet he feels his contributions to the team deserve higher compensation.

His importance to the defense is significant. Known for his strength and size, Vea is central to Tampa Bay’s ability to stop the run. At 6-foot-4 and 347 pounds, his presence is pivotal in controlling the middle of the formation.

Over his career, Vea has been instrumental in elevating Tampa Bay’s defense. The team has consistently ranked at the top in run defense, leading the league in fewest rushing yards allowed per game from 2019 through most of 2024.

In addition to his defensive prowess, Vea has shown versatility in rushing the passer. In 2024, he recorded a career-high seven sacks, contributing to a formidable interior alongside Calijah Kancey.

The trade request comes as the Buccaneers navigate a challenging offseason. The team is already involved in contract negotiations with quarterback Baker Mayfield.
