Student Falls From Eighth Floor Window in Athens

A University of Georgia student named Kristin Sargent survived a fall from an eighth-story apartment window in Athens, Georgia. The incident occurred at the Rambler Athens apartment complex on West Broad Street.

According to a police report, Sargent fell after apparently dancing near an open window and going through the screen. She landed near a pool on the second floor and witnesses noted she was on either a couch or air mattress.

Kristin Sargent fell from the eighth-floor window while dancing and struck a metal bench during the fall. Police found evidence of blood on the bench and a broken armrest.

Lt. Katie Jenkins from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department stated the fall was accidental and not under criminal investigation. Investigators believe the bench helped reduce the impact of Sargent’s fall and noted she was alert and conscious afterward.

Emergency dispatchers received a call from one of Sargent’s friends who reported the fall.

Emergency responders took Sargent to the hospital immediately following the fall, where investigators interviewed her and witnesses present during the event.

The Rambler Athens apartment complex indicated they were reviewing the circumstances surrounding the fall, but the police report did not address specific window safety measures.

The University of Georgia has not provided additional information at this time.
