In Midland, Texas, a tragic incident unfolded as a shooter opened fire in the city, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to at least nine others. City officials have confirmed the shooter died after a tense standoff with police.

The Midland police department reported that the active shooter situation concluded after several hours. The conflict started in one part of the city and ended near a veterinary hospital. Details on how the suspect died remain undisclosed. Midland Mayor Lori Blong stated that authorities utilized robot and drone footage to confirm the shooter’s death.

Andrea Mendias, who works near the incident location, described hearing sounds resembling a small explosion at a nearby closed veterinary clinic. She witnessed heavily armed officers rushing into the parking lot, some entering the building. Prior to this, Mendias heard around 40 gunshots. Video footage she captured displayed officers disembarking from an armored vehicle while deploying robots in the area.

Midland Memorial Hospital responded to the tragedy by treating several victims. Four individuals underwent surgery, while three others received treatment and were released. Two of the patients remain in stable condition, according to the hospital.

The city of Midland, home to approximately 140,000 residents, lies within the state’s oil-rich region. This location was also the scene of a horrifying shooting spree in 2019. In that event, a disgruntled oil services worker killed seven people and injured 24 others in a random shooting as he drove through the Odessa and Midland areas. The two cities are situated over 300 miles west of Dallas.
