RFK Jr. Halts Medicaid Funding

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has initiated a freeze on $1 billion in Medicaid funds directed to California and Minnesota, citing concerns over potential fraud. California Governor Gavin Newsom has dismissed these accusations as politically motivated, attributing them to the Trump administration.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has seen his approval rating fall by 31 points following a fraud investigation, underscores the political implications of overlooking such issues.

Hawaii Indictment

Hawaii’s Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke faces charges of criminal conspiracy, bribery, and falsifying candidate committee reports. The accusations stem from an alleged $35,000 bribe accepted during her tenure as a state lawmaker in 2022.

Indicted alongside Luke were businessman Tobi Solidum, former state representative Ryan Yamane, official Ford Fuchigami from Hawaii’s Transportation Department, and Leo Asunción, a former official of Hawaii’s public utilities commission.

The probe is an extension of a federal investigation into bribery.

Solidum, linked to the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii, played a pivotal role, giving Luke two $5,000 checks associated with COVID-19 testing contracts.

By next week, we’ll have 35, so it will be halfway to our 70.

Luke acknowledged receiving the checks but denied further involvement. She asserted that she has never granted favorable treatment to contributors, emphasizing integrity throughout her career.

Call for Resignation

Hawaii Governor Josh Green has urged Luke to step down to allow the state to progress beyond these issues. He expressed this sentiment in a statement to Maui Now.

The governor’s and lieutenant governor’s offices have been contacted for additional comments.
