Proposal to Rename Nashville Airport for Dolly Parton After Her Passing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A proposal to rename Nashville’s airport in honor of Dolly Parton was announced on Friday by Tennessee’s governor. This announcement follows the country music icon’s death from cancer on Tuesday at the age of 80.

Governor Bill Lee issued a statement on Friday, expressing that naming Nashville International Airport after Parton would be a meaningful homage to the beloved Tennessee native. Lee mentioned that he has already discussed this tribute with Parton’s representatives.

The proposal may necessitate a review of the current naming policy by the Metro Nashville Airport Authority. This policy presently dictates that airport properties should only be named for individuals who have been deceased for at least two years.

The governor’s office revealed that his proposal, alongside the naming policy, is slated for discussion during the airport authority’s meeting scheduled for September 17.
