Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Return to the UK: No Change in Royal Status

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to British soil, but their reunion with the UK won’t have any effect on their royal status. Buckingham Palace has established a clear boundary regarding the Sussexes’ move back to the UK, confirming that the couple will not resume any official duties and their status remains as it was since they stepped back from royal responsibilities in 2020.

A letter released on behalf of King Charles III affirms this position. “In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess resigned from their representative roles on behalf of The Sovereign, and they no longer serve as working members of The Royal Family,” the letter reads, as confirmed by Fox News. It underscores that the couple’s choice of financial independence and privacy will continue to be respected.

This letter emphasizes that a change in address does not translate to a change in royal status. It states, “There is no change in the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain suspended and are not utilized. Their charity work is their personal undertaking and is carried out in their private capacity, akin to private citizens involved in commercial and charitable activities.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have relocated to the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Despite their return, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that their royal status remains unchanged.

The letter from the Lord Chamberlain, the highest-ranking official in the royal household, was distributed to senior government and military officials, as well as lord lieutenants representing the king across the country.

Fox News Digital sought comments from representatives for Prince Harry and Markle. The couple moved back to the UK in late August. Their children have enrolled in British schools and will start classes in September. They will reside in a private, nonroyal residence outside London, although its actual location remains undisclosed.

According to a royal expert, the couple won’t return to any form of the life they had previously. “While Harry and Meghan are returning, they are not regaining official royal roles,” said Hilary Fordwich, a British royals expert. “There was no agreement to a ‘half-in, half-out’ arrangement. They have been prevented from pursuing what was agreed with Queen Elizabeth II.”

Although a return to royal duties is not on the agenda, Harry’s decision to come back could have personal motivations. Former butler to King Charles III, Grant Harrold, suggested that Harry’s desire to spend more time with his father might have reshaped the prince’s priorities after experiencing homesickness.

Harrold warned that returning to the UK would place Harry and Meghan under the royal spotlight, with keen public and palace attention on their actions.
