President Trump to Attend Pentagon Memorial for 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

Washington — President Donald Trump has announced that he will honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the Pentagon, foregoing the ceremony in New York City. The decision comes as the nation prepares to mark 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

During a press interaction, President Trump confirmed his plans and stated, “Because I’m going to the Pentagon.” His choice reflects his commitment to honoring those who perished at the Pentagon attack site, alongside tributes at other locations affected by the tragedy.

Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to attend the ceremony in New York City, ensuring the presence of government officials at all three significant sites related to the attacks—Manhattan, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon. According to a White House official, administration representatives will be present at each location.

As a native of Queens, President Trump has previously participated in the Manhattan commemoration. He last attended the New York City ceremony in 2024 during his presidential campaign, sharing the moment with then-President Joe Biden and then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Although absent last year, Trump honored victims by attending a Yankees vs. Tigers baseball game in New York.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly emphasized President Trump’s ongoing dedication to recognizing the victims and responders of September 11. She stated, “On the 25th anniversary, the president will remember those who were killed by terrorists, pay tribute to their families, and honor the first responders who risked their lives to help fellow citizens.”

Throughout his presidency, Trump has often chosen to spend the anniversary at the Pentagon or the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Since 2016, his participation at various ceremonies has highlighted his regular involvement in commemorating this significant moment in American history.

The New York Times initially reported Trump’s decision not to attend the Manhattan ceremony. Several notable figures, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, will be present at the New York event. The Bush Presidential Center also confirmed the attendance of former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush.
