In New York City, police are requesting public assistance in identifying several individuals suspected of assaulting a San Antonio Spurs fan following the New York Knicks’ loss on Monday. The New York City Police Department has shared several photos of the alleged attackers. The altercation occurred outside a watch party for Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and the Spurs at Bryant Park on June 8, 2026.
The NYPD, collaborating with the Secret Service, canceled an NBA Finals watch party near Madison Square Garden. This decision was due to increased security measures for the game attended by U.S. President Donald Trump. Fans were advised to arrive at least two hours ahead of the game.
The suspects reportedly assaulted the victim by punching and kicking him, eventually tearing off the Spurs jersey he was wearing. The incident took place around 12:17 a.m. as the victim, 39, headed to his hotel. Following the attack, the suspects fled, and the victim received medical attention at a local hospital. Despite his injuries, his condition is described as non-life-threatening.
This incident is part of a broader disturbance following the Knicks’ loss, described by the NYPD as “incredibly reckless.” Some frustrated fans in Manhattan engaged in disorderly conduct, including climbing light poles, throwing objects at officers, and removing street signs, in proximity to Madison Square Garden where celebrations typically occurred during previous playoff successes. The area was restricted for public access on this occasion due to President Trump’s presence.
In the post-game unrest, authorities reported eight arrests, including two for assaulting police officers, and issued 13 criminal court summonses. The NYPD continues its investigation, seeking information from the public regarding the attack on the Spurs fan.
