In a recent episode of his podcast, “Depends on the Context,” Avi Lichtschein discussed an interaction with Rachel Griffin Accurso, a well-known children’s educator. The encounter happened at a neighborhood park where both were visiting with their children. Lichtschein addressed Accurso regarding her comments perceived as anti-Israel.
Lichtschein asserted that Accurso denied being anti-Israel, stating instead that she criticizes the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He questioned this distinction, pointing out that Netanyahu is the elected leader of Israel.
Lichtschein reported that Accurso accused Israel of committing genocide in its conflict with Hamas. She mentioned the death toll among children, to which Lichtschein responded that genocide has a specific definition distinct from war actions.
Despite Accurso’s claims that her “husband’s father is Jewish” and supports a Jewish state, Lichtschein accused her of spreading misinformation. The conversation ended with Accurso walking away.
Lichtschein later addressed Accurso’s husband, expressing regret for distressing her but standing by his statements. He emphasized the impact of Accurso’s words, cautioning her about the ripple effects of her platform. He noted her intentions might stem from compassion, but they could cause harm to the Jewish community.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Lichtschein recounted Accurso’s self-identification as a “Zionist,” likening herself to former NYC Comptroller Brad Lander. Lichtschein highlighted the responsibility tied to her vast audience when discussing sensitive issues.
