Patrick Mahomes silenced critics on “Monday Night Football” with an impressive performance. He led the Kansas City Chiefs on a remarkable 10-play, 46-yard drive, ending with a 15-yard touchdown run. This early lead set the tone against the Denver Broncos.
Mahomes previously tore his ACL during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14. His recovery was swift and commendable. He returned from surgery on both his ACL and LCL, ready to play by Week 1. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that Mahomes expedited his recovery by undergoing surgery immediately, avoiding knee swelling.
Usually players wait until swelling subsides, but Mahomes jumped into rehab just days after the injury.
Mahomes shared that he felt fully ready by the first week of June, a quick turnaround. His knee didn’t hinder him during the game. He completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards, including two touchdowns and one interception. He also contributed 23 rushing yards and a touchdown, leading to a 31-10 victory over the Broncos.
The Chiefs’ performance wasn’t solely reliant on Mahomes. Kenneth Walker III, newly signed in free agency, significantly impacted the game. He rushed for 173 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries, adding strength to the team’s offense.
