In a recent interview on 60 Minutes, Patrick Clancy discussed the tragic deaths of his three children, Cora, Dawson, and Callan, and opened up about his former wife, Lindsay Clancy. Speaking with CBS News’ Ross Douthat, Patrick revealed that Lindsay claimed to remember the incidents as if they were a dream and has never sought his forgiveness.
Understanding Lindsay’s Perspective
Lindsay Clancy, once a labor and delivery nurse, is facing three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths that occurred in January 2023 at their Massachusetts home. She pleaded not guilty, attributing her actions to postpartum psychosis, which her defense team argued rendered her not criminally accountable.
Patrick shared that when he inquired about Lindsay’s memory of the events, she compared it to recollecting a vivid dream. He quoted her as saying, “It was like a dream,” which she remembered much like one recalls a dream after waking.
Patrick’s Forgiveness and Struggle
During the interview, Patrick explained that Lindsay had never asked for his forgiveness, yet he had chosen to forgive her. “I think when it comes to forgiveness,” Patrick said, “I also felt that if I didn’t get there, I would be eaten up inside forever.” He emphasized the importance of forgiveness in his healing process.
Patrick also disclosed his struggle with suicidal thoughts following the tragedy. He recounted a period when he questioned if he would reach his 35th birthday, expressing that he felt indifferent about the possibility.
Legal Proceedings
The trial of Lindsay Clancy resulted in a hung jury after seven days of deliberation, leading Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial earlier this month. The complexity of the case, along with the arguments concerning postpartum psychosis, contributed to the lack of a unanimous decision.
The tragic nature of the case continues to unfold, with the public awaiting further developments.
