Photographer Finds Rocks Instead of Film in Amazon Purchase

Wedding photographer Katie Hunt faced an unexpected challenge upon arriving at a venue on September 10. Though experienced and accustomed to routine with her team at KD Hunt Photography, she encountered a surprise after purchasing film rolls online from Amazon.

Hunt, primarily a digital photographer, bought two five-packs of Portra 400 35mm film from a well-reviewed Amazon seller as precautionary stock. Upon reaching the wedding site, she discovered that each canister contained gravel-like rocks instead of film.

“There were one or two gravel type rocks in every canister,” Hunt said, stunned by the discovery.

Despite this setback, Hunt successfully captured the wedding using her own film stock. She contacted Amazon to address the issue, suspecting foul play from a previous buyer who placed the rocks in the canisters before resealing them meticulously.

Amazon spokesperson Lex Evans confirmed efforts to rectify the situation and assured ongoing investigation. Hunt received a full refund for the faulty items and shared images with Amazon’s support team.

“The film that had the rocks in was just extra that I was going to have my second photographer use, so she didn’t have to use her own. I had enough of my own film to fulfill the contracted services. I am primarily a digital photographer anyway,” Hunt clarified, noting this was her first negative experience with Amazon.

Hunt shared the incident on TikTok (@kdhuntphotographyllc), where her video revealing the canisters gained over 2.3 million views and 144,500 likes. Her assistant filmed the initial discovery as part of routine behind-the-scenes documentation to attract new clients.
