Novak Djokovic Upset by Joao Fonseca at French Open

Novak Djokovic’s match against Brazilian Joao Fonseca started well, but the mood shifted when a cameraman got too close for Djokovic’s comfort. The incident occurred during the third-round match at Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris.

The cameraman moved in for a close shot after Djokovic’s two-set lead over the 19-year-old Fonseca. Djokovic reacted by sarcastically asking, “Can you come more in my face? For God’s sake, make some space.” The cameraman complied, moving away after Djokovic’s frustrated remarks.

TNT Sports commentator Nick Mullins observed an assistant referee asking the cameraman to keep a distance, resulting in a replacement cameraman stepping in.

While Djokovic’s frustration was evident, he still maintained control of the match, needing just one more set win to progress to the Round of 16. However, Fonseca surprised many by winning the next three sets. He defeated Djokovic 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5.

Fonseca, ranked No. 28 globally, displayed his potential by overcoming Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion who currently holds the No. 3 spot in men’s singles.

This match marked their first encounter, and it underscored Fonseca’s rising status in tennis. His victory sets up a fourth-round clash with Norwegian Casper Ruud, ranked No. 15, presenting a chance for a quarterfinal berth at Roland-Garros.
