Spurs Overcome Thunder to Reach NBA Finals

The Oklahoma City Thunder ended their regular season as the NBA’s top team with a record of 64-18. Close behind them were the San Antonio Spurs at 62-20, who posed the greatest challenge for the Thunder. During the regular season, the Spurs had a 4-1 advantage over the Thunder, and in a thrilling Western Conference Finals, they secured a 4-3 victory. Game 7 concluded with the Spurs winning 111-103 in Oklahoma City, marking their first trip to the NBA Finals since 2014. In the Finals, they will face the New York Knicks starting June 3.

Despite the defeat, Thunder guard Cason Wallace remained unfazed. At a postgame conference, Wallace remarked, “They’re a good team. Beatable team. Obviously, we beat ’em. We just gotta do things better for a longer period of time.” His comments quickly sparked a flurry of reactions online. One user pointed out, “Beatable but they beat y’all [expletive] with no postseason experience.” Another added, “4-8 vs the Spurs this year. Enjoy Cancun.”

Some fans, including Spurs supporters, highlighted the potential of their young roster. A fan account noted, “They have no idea how much better the Spurs are going to be year after year after year. [Dylan] Harper and [Carter] Bryant are only 20! [Stephon] Castle 21! Wemby 22! They have no chance in the future.”

Wallace’s assessment isn’t entirely unfounded. The Thunder pushed the series to a Game 7, showcasing the competitive nature of the matchup. Moreover, the NBA hasn’t witnessed consecutive champions since the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018. To assert the Spurs as unbeatable, or the Thunder as a dynasty, might be premature.
