Former HGTV host Nicole Curtis, known for her work on ‘Rehab Addict,’ is entangled in legal troubles. The City of Detroit is suing Curtis and her company, Detroit Renovations LLC. The allegation is they failed to renovate a deteriorated house, creating a public nuisance despite numerous code violations.

Curtis acquired the property in 2021 after a court battle with the Detroit Land Bank Authority, as reported by The Detroit News. Wayne County Circuit Judge Timothy Kenny had deemed the house a hazard to the community and ordered its renovation. However, the city accuses Curtis of not addressing necessary repairs like roof and gutter maintenance, leaving the property non-compliant and in decline.

Curtis, known for preserving historical homes in Detroit and Minneapolis, has not responded to requests for comment. Her HGTV program, ‘Rehab Addict,’ was canceled following a controversy involving her use of a racial slur during filming. The footage, which aired on Radar Online, led to her dismissal in February.

The incident happened during a ladder installation, where she used the n-word in frustration. Curtis asked to have the remark deleted, recognizing its severity. The show was due to return after a hiatus, but the leak led to its permanent cancellation. HGTV responded to the incident, emphasizing that such language contradicts their values and disappoints viewers and partners alike.

Following the controversy, Curtis apologized and expressed regret. She discussed the incident on ‘The Breakfast Club’ show, where hosts questioned her language. Curtis explained her use of unusual terms like ‘fart digger’ and ‘fart knocker,’ noting her intent was never to offend.
