Nicolas Cage’s Beachfront Home Threatened by Coastal Erosion

Nicolas Cage’s oceanfront residence recently faced damage when the driveway collapsed due to intense coastal erosion. The Los Angeles County Fire Department linked the erosion to Hurricane Marie, which formed in the Pacific Ocean, leading to substantial waves and heightened tides.

The collapse resulted in a sinkhole measuring approximately 30 by 30 feet in front of the house. Footage of the scene revealed waves and structural beams beneath the actor’s home, accompanied by remnants of a glass fence and concrete. Orange cones were placed around the site for safety.

The City of Malibu commented on X, detailing their response to the driveway collapse, mentioning a related gas leak discovered on Tuesday morning. Both the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Fire Department addressed the incident by closing the private road and managing the gas leak.

Per the City’s report, its Building Safety Division, alongside the Southern California Gas Company, is evaluating the damage. They have temporarily restricted entry to five homes. Continuous assessments are underway to ensure area safety, with updates pending.

Though evacuations haven’t been mandated, the City is monitoring other erosion-related issues, particularly along Pacific Coast Highway and Westward Beach, compounded by strong waves and tides.

Purchased in 2024 for $10.5 million, Cage’s home spans 4,000 square feet, boasting a rooftop deck, ground-level lounge, and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows for optimal ocean views. Reports indicate Cage was absent during the incident, and there were no injuries.

Cage’s film credits include “Moonlight,” “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Face/Off,” and “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” He received an Academy Award for “Leaving Las Vegas.” Describing his acting philosophy, Cage told The Guardian he enjoys pushing boundaries and finds independent films more accommodating. He highlighted the importance of work to prevent self-destructive tendencies.
