In Peoria, the Mundelein Mustangs secured a decisive 13-3 victory over the defending Class 4A champions, Oswego, during a state semifinal match. The game occurred on Friday at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex. The match concluded in six innings.
Junior second baseman Devin Hill played a crucial role, going 2-for-4 and contributing three RBIs. Hill’s performance included a run-scoring single in the first inning and a two-run single in the third. This helped the Mustangs establish an 8-0 lead.
The Mustangs, holding a record of 23-5, will face Lincoln-Way West, with a record of 29-7, in the state championship game. The highly anticipated match is scheduled for Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
Additional standout performances came from senior center fielder Kieley Tomas, who accumulated three hits and three RBIs. Junior shortstop Taylor Pyke also contributed significantly with two hits and two RBIs.
Senior ace Shae Johnson, despite past setbacks due to a torn labrum in her throwing shoulder, pitched efficiently. Johnson allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out nine batters.
