Modest Mouse has decided to remove guitarist Simon O’Connor from its upcoming tour dates following accusations involving inappropriate communication with a minor.

The band revealed last week on social media that O’Connor, who joined the band in 2021, will no longer be part of the tour. Instead, Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav will take over guitar duties.

The band stated, “Simon O’Connor will not be joining us on the upcoming tour. The good news is that Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav will be jumping in to play guitar. We look forward to being out there with you all.”

Modest Mouse representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Allegations surfaced on Reddit when a 16-year-old female fan shared screenshots claiming O’Connor sent her an “erotic image” and multiple direct messages after she interacted with his Instagram stories. The accuser noted her age in her online handle and mentioned that one of her posts clearly indicated a countdown to her 17th birthday.

She claimed O’Connor removed the inappropriate message swiftly and then continued the conversation, admitting his phone wasn’t compromised. He mentioned he had been engaging with social media while “looking at everything with one eye.”

O’Connor allegedly commented, “But you did blindside me with a gaggle of likes and then very little intro besides bikini pics so we are both to blame.”

Further exchanges showed O’Connor admitting to deleting the message with his remark “I did it again.”

Reacting to the incident, O’Connor asserted his stance against sexual misconduct towards minors, describing his actions as errors in judgment.

He said, “I unequivocally oppose any sexual behavior towards minors, as a human and a parent it disgusts me.”

O’Connor addressed that he was dealing with a recurring online presence, usually posing through multiple social media profiles, which led to his misguided outreach.

“After a long night, I picked my phone up to discover that a similar profile had been interacting with some of my Instagram posts and stories,” he explained. “I assumed I was dealing with the same person as before and reached out with a tasteless meme.”

O’Connor expressed regret, realizing the mistake and immediately ceasing the communication.

He apologized, “I’m genuinely sorry to the person who received those messages. They didn’t deserve to be put in that position, and I’m sorry for the stress and attention this has brought them.”

He acknowledged public skepticism, stating his understanding and commitment to taking ownership of his actions.
