Celebrities Consider Leaving U.S. Due to Political Climate

Greg Gutfeld has criticized wealthy Democrats who express a desire to reside outside the U.S., citing a Breitbart poll that shows 55% of them feel this way. Gutfeld argues that financially stable individuals can easily relocate abroad, unlike most Americans who face significant challenges in permanently leaving the United States.

Musician Art Garfunkel joins a growing list of celebrities contemplating moving abroad in response to President Donald Trump’s policies. In an interview with The Guardian, Garfunkel, at 84, voiced concerns over the nation’s stance on crucial issues and spoke about potentially leaving the country.

“I don’t like America’s position at all,” Garfunkel stated. “I’m not aboard, and I’m thinking of leaving the country, frankly.”

Garfunkel expressed worry about climate change, international affairs, and other political issues. His concerns include the planet’s temperature rising, water issues, and starvation affecting many individuals globally.

He also criticized Trump’s military action in Venezuela, raising questions about the implications of such interventions. Garfunkel questioned if taking over a country is becoming a new norm under Trump’s leadership.

Garfunkel’s potential relocation resembles choices made by other celebrities like comedian Rosie O’Donnell, who moved to Ireland after Trump’s election victory. Director James Cameron has considered relocating to New Zealand, where he holds citizenship, due to disapproval of Trump’s policies. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi decided to make their stay in the UK permanent following the election outcome.

Rosie O’Donnell, who temporarily returned to the U.S. for hosting duties, referred to Trump as “Mango Mussolini” and spoke of her preference for Ireland under current circumstances.

Democratic strategist Kaivan Shroff commented on the trend of celebrity threats to leave the U.S., noting that these are often dismissed yet acknowledging Garfunkel’s statements stem from genuine concern about the country’s direction.

Art Garfunkel’s remarks reflect a deep sense of alienation, according to Shroff, as the musician indicates he no longer recognizes the U.S.’s global role. Shroff believes Garfunkel’s thoughts on moving abroad serve more as a political statement rather than a definite decision to leave.
