Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has taken legal action against Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, accuses Governor Abbott of refusing to extradite a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. The agent, Christian Castro, faces charges for allegedly shooting an immigrant during the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement initiative known as Operation Metro Surge.
The incident reportedly took place in Minneapolis during a period marked by heightened immigration crackdowns. Christian Castro is currently detained at a facility in Texas. The refusal to extradite the agent to Minnesota has prompted Attorney General Ellison to pursue legal intervention.
At a news conference held in St. Paul on Tuesday, Minnesota Attorney General Ellison and Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty addressed the media. They outlined the implications of the lawsuit and the broader context of immigration enforcement during the Trump era.
