IndyCar Champions Celebrate Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Times Square

IndyCar champions Joseph Newgarden and Kyle Kirkwood, along with commentator Will Buxton, recently appeared on ‘Fox & Friends’ in Times Square. They gathered to promote the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, an exciting racing event scheduled in Washington, D.C. This event is set to bring high-speed action to the nation’s capital, offering a unique racing experience.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will allow drivers to race on a street course layout near iconic American landmarks. It is part of the NTT IndyCar Series, which also features the renowned Indianapolis 500. The Indianapolis 500 is widely recognized as ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,’ yet the Freedom 250 aims to surpass expectations as perhaps the most thrilling event in the series’ history.

Josef Newgarden of Team Penske and Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global joined Will Buxton on ‘Fox & Friends’ on Tuesday. They shared insights about this one-of-a-kind event, emphasizing its significance as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Buxton remarked on the historical connection of auto racing with America’s rich cultural heritage. He highlighted that the country has embraced car culture and racing for a significant part of its history. The race is also a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Newgarden, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and series champion, discussed the rare opportunity to race in the capital. He expressed his ambition to win for Team Penske and represent the nation. Newgarden acknowledged the hard work involved in preparing the Washington, D.C. street circuit for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.

Kyle Kirkwood, driving the No. 27 Honda for Andretti Global, currently ranks second in the championship standings. Known for his prowess on street circuits, he commented on the extensive preparation for the event. The circuit features a start-finish line with the US Capitol Building as a stunning backdrop. Kirkwood is eager to race, highlighting the elaborate suites and the presence of 100,000 spectators expected over the two-day event.

The weekend kicks off with practice on Saturday morning, followed by qualifying in the evening. The Grand Prix begins at 1 p.m. ET, with pre-race coverage starting at 11:30 a.m. on FOX.
