U.S. Soccer has announced that Mauricio Pochettino, the coach of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, has signed a contract extension through 2030. This agreement secures Pochettino’s leadership until the 2030 FIFA World Cup. JT Batson, CEO of U.S. Soccer, expressed confidence in Pochettino’s vision, stating, “Mauricio and his staff believe in the future of soccer in the United States and our new project allows us to build on the progress of the USMNT and the momentum of U.S. Soccer.”

Pochettino’s tenure with the U.S. team began in 2024 following a crucial tournament setback preceding the World Cup. Previously, Pochettino has managed significant European clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. His initial contract was slated to conclude with this summer’s World Cup, where the U.S. men reached the Round of 16 but were ultimately defeated by Belgium, 4-1.

Despite this exit, the U.S. team’s earlier performances were impressive, with victories over Paraguay, Australia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, marking a record achievement for the team in World Cup history. The matches garnered substantial support, with tens of thousands in attendance and an average of 50.1 million viewers watching the Round of 16 defeat, making it the most-watched soccer broadcast in U.S. history.

Pochettino highlighted the future potential of the U.S. team, saying, “Working together with U.S. Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the Men’s National Team program even stronger.” He expressed excitement for integrating his experience to enhance player pathways and broader aspects of U.S. Soccer.

With his contract lasting through to the 2030 World Cup, planned predominantly in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, Pochettino will guide the U.S. men’s team through significant tournaments, including the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League and CONCACAF Gold Cup. Furthermore, Pochettino and his staff will contribute to various facets of the U.S. soccer community, supporting youth soccer, coaching education, and professional league partnerships.
