Massive Brawl Erupts at South Carolina River Hangout

A popular hangout at the Congaree River in South Carolina turned chaotic when a large brawl broke out on June 6. Video footage captured dozens of people crowding around, watching as the fight unfolded at the 601 Sand Bar in Calhoun County.

Multiple fights occurred simultaneously, with people seen throwing punches and grappling in knee-deep water. Bystanders recorded the scene on their phones, adding to the tumultuous atmosphere. The brawl has resulted in six arrests and an ongoing investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident involved more than 20 participants, leading to injuries such as swollen eyes and head injuries. Sheriff Thomas Summers highlighted the severity of the injuries and mentioned that alcohol and underage drinking played a role in the outbreak of violence.

The fight erupted during the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run, an event that brings boaters and outdoor enthusiasts to the river. Summers noted the potential danger of mixing alcohol with water activities and the unsuitability of the location for families due to such incidents.

Authorities have arrested six individuals in connection with the brawl: Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell, and Taylor Knudson. They face charges related to assault and breach of peace.

The investigation is ongoing, with additional arrests expected as detectives review video footage and public information. Sheriff Summers emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated and urged those with information to contact investigators.
