Mack Hollins Embraces Unique Barefoot Style with New England Patriots

Mack Hollins has become a standout as a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, but not in the usual ways one might expect. This isn’t about improvements in speed or defensive reading; it’s about his habit of walking barefoot.

In his second year with the Patriots, Hollins’ preference for going everywhere without shoes has found local acceptance. Restaurants now allow him to dine barefoot, a sign of growing acceptance. Hollins shared his joy at this change during a training camp interview conducted without shoes. “It’s really great because now they’re kind of letting me slide being barefoot in restaurants and stuff because they know who I am,” he said.

“At first, it was like, some homeless guy coming in here, but now it’s like the mechanic homeless guy so it’s all right. So, yeah, it’s been great,” Hollins added.

Hollins’ unique behaviors extend beyond his footwear (or lack thereof). He is known for eating with his hands, believing it helps him sense food temperature better.

Despite some seeing this as an attention-seeking tactic, his performance on the field supports his unorthodox style. Hollins started 13 regular-season games and two postseason games last season. He delivered a crucial 35-yard touchdown reception in Super Bowl LX.

His behavior might seem odd, but Patriots fans are more tolerant given his contributions. Hollins himself acknowledges his reputation. “Every team I’ve been on, you ask them who’s the weirdest guy they’re going to say Mack,” he once admitted.

In cold climates, Hollins doesn’t shy away from showing up shirtless and barefoot, even in Buffalo’s snowy weather. His eccentric habits include donning an Animal Muppet mask at a significant game.

Hollins explains his disdain for shoes by viewing them simply as tools. “I think shoes are a tool and people have made them a part of their body,” he said. “I wouldn’t walk around with a hammer just because I might need a hammer sometimes.”
