Los Angeles Chargers Face Setback with Tyler Biadasz’s Season-Ending Injury

The Los Angeles Chargers announced a significant setback to their offense on Sunday. Starting center Tyler Biadasz will not be playing this season due to an ACL injury. This injury occurred during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers last week and has led the team to place Biadasz on season-ending injured reserve.

At 28, Biadasz joined the Chargers as a highly regarded offseason acquisition. He signed a three-year contract worth $30 million after being released by the Washington Commanders. His addition was seen as an improvement over Bradley Bozeman, who served as the center for the past two seasons.

“Los Angeles Chargers center Tyler Biadasz (63) takes part in a minicamp at The Bolt on June 17, 2026, in El Segundo, Calif.”

The injury took place when Chargers guard Kayode Awosika inadvertently caused 49ers defensive lineman Sebastian Valdez to fall into Biadasz’s legs during an 11-on-11 drill. Biadasz immediately went down and was eventually carted off the field.

Biadasz, who was entering his seventh NFL season, spent his first four years with the Dallas Cowboys, where he was drafted in the fourth round from Wisconsin. He also earned a Pro Bowl selection in his third season with Dallas before playing two years with the Commanders.

With Biadasz out, second-round rookie Jake Slaughter will step in as the center. Slaughter was originally vying for the starting left guard position but will now move back to center. During his college career at Florida, Slaughter played center and has taken snaps at that position in training camp and preseason.

This is the second consecutive year the Chargers have suffered a significant injury to an offensive lineman during training camp. Last year, left tackle Rashawn Slater endured a torn patellar tendon shortly after a contract extension, leading to further disruptions on the line.

With Biadasz sidelined, the Chargers will need to adjust. Last season, they moved Joe Alt from right tackle to left tackle. However, Alt played only six games due to multiple ankle injuries, further straining the team’s offensive line.

Quarterback Justin Herbert must remain hopeful that the recent injury to Biadasz won’t signal a trend of further issues for his offensive line.
