Lindy Li, once a leading Democratic fundraiser, argues that President Joe Biden has made a mistake by promising to explain his re-election bid for 2024. Concerns over Biden’s age and cognitive abilities have mounted, and Li believes his forthcoming memoir, Promise Me, America, might revive painful memories for Democrats since their 2024 election defeat.

Li compared the book to Biden’s presidency. According to her, the sentiment among Democrats was one of exhaustion with Biden, emphasizing that there was little support on the occasion of his departure on July 21. She stated, “They’re thinking, ‘Why can’t you just shut the f— up?’ Prior to me leaving the party, they wanted nothing to do with this guy.” Li criticized Jill Biden for having him write books instead of enjoying retirement, arguing this mirrors his presidential campaign efforts.

Li claimed, “Jill has him writing books that no one wants to read instead of fully enjoying his retirement.”

Throughout his term, former President Biden faced rumors of cognitive decline. Li suggested that these issues were not only public speculation but also discussed internally within Democratic circles. Biden’s book announcement on the social media platform X elicited ridicule from critics. In his announcement, Biden mentioned the book would cover the challenges faced by the nation and his reasoning for running for re-election and stepping aside.

Some conservatives, like Steve Guest and Clay Travis, mocked the idea of Biden authoring the book. Others questioned who actually wrote the memoir, with Missouri Republican Rep. Jason Smith hinting at the use of an autopen.

In her soon-to-be-published book, Unburdened, Li promises to reveal insights from her connections within the Democratic Party. These insights point out that Biden’s support was tepid among even his own backers long before his decision to not run for the 2024 election.

Li recalled being at a 2023 event where Democratic National Committee staff took her phone due to her social media activity, highlighting the campaign’s efforts to control Biden’s image. She revealed, “The [Democratic National Committee] was routinely confiscating the phones of top donors with social media followings.”

Li concludes that attempts to rehabilitate Biden’s image might hurt him further, as many Democrats wish to move beyond the 2024 election debacle. She asserted, “It’s very clear they were trying to hide the fact that instead of having a candidate they could be proud of, they were busy hiding a candidate that they were deeply ashamed of.”
