Matt D’Arcy and Keith Stedronsky, founders of Dogs Out, joined ‘Fox & Friends First’ to mark National Hot Dog Day. These entrepreneurs shared insights into their hot dog eating competition college tour, starting in the Northeast, and their success with a Jersey Shore hot dog stand business over five years. They also launched a new website.
On July 15, National Hot Dog Day, various food retailers across the U.S. offer deals for celebration. Annually, Americans consume about 20 billion hot dogs, averaging 70 per person, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC). Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, U.S. consumption reaches 7 billion hot dogs, which could stretch from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles over five times.
Deals are available from several retailers:
- 7-Eleven: App users can enjoy any two roller grill items, including the quarter-pound, all-beef Big Bite hot dog, for $3.50. These items can be customized with various condiments at the Big Bite bar.
- Speedway and Stripes, owned by 7-Eleven, offer a similar deal for rewards members.
- Circle K: Roller grill hot dogs are available for $1 through the app.
- Cumberland Farms: New Englanders can buy two hot dogs for $3 until July 20.
- Love’s: Offers a free hot dog through the app.
- Sheetz: In partnership with Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, customers can get two free hot dogs via the app with a fuel purchase. They also introduce the “Big Glizzy,” a large Nathan’s Famous hot dog.
- Krystal: Rewards members receive a free hot dog variety with a $5 purchase.
The co-owners of Dogs Out seek to “make hot dogs cool again.” Their hot dog stand has become a popular spot on the Jersey Shore. To celebrate, they’ll conduct a lively hot dog-eating competition tour at college fraternities, featuring cash prizes and a championship belt.
Additional offers include:
- Dog Haus: Rewards members receive a free Haus Dog and a two-for-one offer from July 16 to month’s end.
- Philly Pretzel Factory: Offers $1 pretzel dogs, with app users eligible for a free pretzel dog.
- Portillo’s: Customers spending $5 can purchase a hot dog for $1.
- Shake Shack: Offers a Classic Hot Dog with Classic Fries or Lemonade for $8 using promo code SUMMERDOG.
- Sonic: Features app-exclusive hot dog and corn dog deals, varying by location and date.
- Wienerschnitzel: Sells four chili dogs for $4.
