Lil Durk Acquitted in Murder-for-Hire Plot

A federal jury in Los Angeles has cleared Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk of all charges in a murder-for-hire scheme involving another rapper. Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was facing several felony charges, including murder, stalking, and conspiracy.

The Los Angeles court also tried five other individuals connected with Lil Durk’s rap group, “Only the Family,” or “OTF.” On Friday, the jury found Lil Durk not guilty of all accusations against him. In contrast, two co-defendants, Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey, were found guilty of stalking and conspiracy to stalk but were acquitted of the murder-for-hire charge.

Prosecutors had alleged that Lil Durk planned to murder Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo, known legally as Tyquian Bowman. The target, Quando Rondo, survived a 2022 shooting incident, which instead resulted in the tragic death of his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. The alleged plot was believed to be a response to the prior killing of OTF rapper King Von during a shootout outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta.

Authorities claimed that Lil Durk offered a “bounty” for Rondo’s death. Among those charged, Keith “Flacka” Jones admitted to Robinson’s murder and took the stand against Lil Durk, Wilson, and Lindsey in court. Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant also entered a guilty plea and testified against the group.

Lil Durk’s musical accomplishments include winning the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance, thanks to his hit single “All My Life” featuring J. Cole. He has also received three other Grammy nominations. If he had been convicted, Lil Durk was facing the possibility of a life sentence.
