Although his contract runs until 2028, only $1.2 million of his $8.1 million base salary is guaranteed this year.

Johnson is highly regarded as a top nickel cornerback, expected to carry his skill to Las Vegas following the trade.

However, Johnson turns 30 this July, seeking stability post-trade. Complicating matters, the Raiders just drafted Treydan Stukes, a versatile defensive back in the second round. Standing 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Stukes recorded 52 tackles, defended 10 passes, intercepted four times, and made one sack at Arizona last year.

Johnson remains the frontrunner for the nickel role. His performance in 2026 could increase his contractual leverage and cost. Conversely, rewarding him now might bind resources to a player nearing the end of his peak performance.
