The San Francisco 49ers have recently faced public scrutiny following owner Jed York’s arrest in a prostitution sting. Despite the team’s initial decision not to comment, coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the situation during his first press conference since the incident. Shanahan emphasized that York’s legal troubles will not impact the team’s performance.

York was arrested and pled no contest to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools in a plea deal with an Ohio prosecutor. However, Shanahan assured that these developments will not affect the Bay Area team. His focus remains on football, pointing out that York’s situation has not been discussed in team meetings.

Shanahan, who experienced a car accident in July, believes neither his accident nor York’s legal situation will distract the team’s preparations for the upcoming season. He stated, “I don’t think pertained to our players much,” indicating that the team can continue its training camp as usual.

Shanahan acknowledged the gravity of York’s actions, revealing that he has maintained communication with York in recent days. Shanahan expressed his respect for Jed and his family, suggesting that York’s situation remains a personal matter.

“I got a lot of respect for Jed. I got a lot of respect for Danielle. Their family does mean a lot to me.”

Reports have emerged about York’s personal life, including a divorce petition citing “irreconcilable differences.” The NFL is monitoring the situation, implying York may face disciplinary actions under its Personal Conduct Policy, which could affect the team’s ownership.

Despite potential repercussions, Shanahan maintains focus on his team’s preparedness, noting the players are accustomed to media attention and public scrutiny. He shared, “I got cameras on all the time. They got cameras in their face right after games.”

While further developments about York’s circumstances may surface, Shanahan continues to prioritize the 49ers’ football endeavors.
