Milwaukee Bucks player Kyle Kuzma is making waves in the political scene with a substantial bet regarding the upcoming mayoral election in Los Angeles. Kuzma has wagered $36,000 on Spencer Pratt, former star of “The Hills,” believing Pratt can pull off an unexpected win to become LA’s mayor.
The nonpartisan primary is scheduled for June 2, and Kuzma, who previously won an NBA championship with the Lakers, supports Pratt’s campaign. Responding to critiques about his endorsement, Kuzma took to social media, noting the city’s struggles since the pandemic.
Spencer Pratt has positioned himself as a challenging candidate promising significant change in local governance and a more robust public safety strategy. Pratt’s campaign has also gained backing from President Trump and Lakers minority owner Jeanie Buss, who made a maximum donation to his campaign.
Pratt entered the mayoral race after losing his home in the Pacific Palisades wildfires in 2025. Motivated by dissatisfaction with city leadership and emergency responses, Pratt aims to unseat current Mayor Karen Bass.
Pratt has capitalized on voter frustration over issues such as crime, city fiscal policies, and homelessness. While some viewed Pratt as a novelty candidate, his campaign style and criticisms of city management keep public attention focused on him.
At a recent event, Pratt openly criticized Mayor Bass, humorously dubbing her “Karen Basura,” and highlighted alleged policy failures he believes have led to the city’s challenges. During the event, Pratt reiterated his commitment to public safety reforms.
