Katy Perry’s headlining performance at Belgium’s Werchter Boutique was canceled just hours before she was scheduled to take the stage. Officials decided to halt the outdoor festival due to forecasts of severe weather conditions, prioritizing crowd safety.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Perry apologized to her fans and expressed disappointment over the cancellation. She stressed that she had no control over the situation, saying, “Sadly my set @WerchterBoutique tonight can’t happen due to a government mandated cancellation because of the incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns.” Perry shared that she was backstage when the decision was made.
She emphasized the importance of safety for the 55,000 attendees and expressed regret for not being able to change the weather. “The safety of all 55,000 of you always comes first and foremost,” Perry noted. Mentioning her plans to wear her outfit from a 2009 performance at the same location, she conveyed her eagerness to return after 17 years.
“I was looking forward to being back after 17 years, I was even gonna wear the same outfit from that 2009 show again,” Perry said.
The Werchter Boutique festival’s official statement explained that the event would end after Pitbull’s performance. Severe thunderstorms were predicted to begin at midnight, leading to a BE-Alert issued by the governor of Flemish Brabant. The festival’s early closure aimed to ensure a safe and orderly exit for visitors.
Perry’s recent performance history includes appearing at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Los Angeles. Her set featured a live debut of her song “Wonder” with Norwegian singer Tius. Her boyfriend, Justin Trudeau, attended the ceremony to support her, and they watched the United States’ opening match against Paraguay together.
Currently touring Europe, Perry has released a new single, “Watch It Burn,” and has several festivals and solo concerts lined up. Her next show is scheduled at DEPOT Live at Cardiff Castle in Wales.
