Kacey Musgraves Faces Backlash Over Birthday Charity Request

Kacey Musgraves recently faced criticism following her request for fans to donate to an immigrant children’s rights organization during her ‘Middle of Nowhere’ tour. The country star celebrated her 38th birthday on the opening night of her tour in Chicago, Illinois. During the concert, she paused to ask the audience to support the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

Musgraves explained the importance of the organization, stating, ‘It gives legal aid and funds to children whose parents have been deported unfairly. It’s not political; these kids need help.’ Emphasizing any amount would help, she stated, ’50 cents, whatever you want to do, would mean a lot to me.’

The crowd responded with applause and cheers in support of her appeal. However, online reactions were mixed. Some conservative commentators criticized the call for donations, questioning the definition of ‘unfair deportation.’ Tomi Lahren, from the ‘Tomi Lahren Is Fearless’ podcast, questioned the concept publicly. Others suggested donations should benefit victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

Critics on social media accused Musgraves of alienating part of her audience and called for a boycott of her music and concerts. Some users argued the country star should contribute her own money, considering her wealth estimated at $15 million.

Despite the criticism, many fans defended Musgraves, praising her compassion for immigrant children. One supporter commented, ‘Helping children caught in difficult circumstances is a worthy cause.’

Musgraves remained steadfast in her support for the Young Center. On social media, she conveyed solidarity with immigrant children and highlighted the organization’s mission. The Young Center expressed appreciation for her support, emphasizing its goal to advocate for unaccompanied migrant children.

The organization, based in Chicago, works with volunteers, attorneys, and social workers to support immigrant children. They focus on family unity, fair proceedings, and the release from custody. In 2024, they reported serving 1,975 children from 53 countries and an increase in average detention times.

In addition to her recent appeal, Musgraves has supported the charity in other ways. In April, she partnered with resale platform Depop to sell pieces from her wardrobe. All proceeds went to the Young Center. Moreover, she invited three brothers from a family previously detained by ICE to perform at her shows in Texas.

Musgraves is actively involved in her community and uses her platform to advocate for causes she believes in. Despite the backlash, she remains committed to helping immigrant children, emphasizing the importance of ensuring they have support and legal representation.

Her concert in Chicago marked the start of a North American arena tour, which continues through October. Fox News Digital’s CJ Womack contributed to this report.
