Podcaster Joe Rogan recently expressed doubts about the U.S. military strategy concerning Iran on his show, The Joe Rogan Experience. During the episode, he engaged with journalist Annie Jacobsen and shared his concerns about the ongoing conflict.
Rogan and Jacobsen discussed the possibility of a “fundamental warping” of the U.S. military. Rogan stated, “Yeah, without a doubt. And also, no clear way to resolve this—at all. And it seems like our stockpiles are running dry. You know, bases are getting blown up by drones.” He highlighted the risk of America becoming a target due to perceived unprovoked attacks on Iran.
Rogan’s remarks add to his ongoing criticism of President Donald Trump’s approach to Iran. Earlier in the year, he questioned the administration’s strategies, which he described as nonsensical, speculating about their motives. He suggested that the war exposed vulnerabilities in U.S. military readiness, including drone attacks on bases and dwindling weapon supplies.
Robert Y. Shapiro, a political science professor at Columbia, noted, “Normally I would say Rogan’s comments could have an impact of a couple percentage points or more on Trump’s support among his base. However, the situation in Iran is so evident that those influenced by Rogan have already realized the reality.”
Polling on Iran
Recent polls indicate declining public support for Trump’s Iran policy. A Quinnipiac University poll shows only 34% of voters support military action against Iran, while 60% oppose it. This reflects the highest disapproval level since the poll began earlier this year.
The poll reports that 69% of independents oppose military action, with Trump’s approval on Iran at 28% and disapproval at 66%. Comparatively, a previous survey showed a 34% approval rating for Trump on Iran, with a disapproval rating of 62%.
YouGov/The Economist’s survey conducted earlier in July shows Trump’s approval at 31% and disapproval at 59%. A June poll indicated a 34% approval and 55% disapproval rating on the issue.
Rogan’s criticism is significant due to his previous support for Trump. His podcast is influential, and he endorsed Trump before the 2024 election. However, Rogan disagrees with military actions against Iran, saying it seems driven by interests possibly linked to other countries, such as Israel.
“This is why a lot of people feel betrayed,” Rogan commented, referring to Trump’s past campaign promises of avoiding unnecessary wars. His consistent questioning of Iran’s conflict resonates with the broader debate among conservatives and independents about whether the actions align with Trump’s promise to avoid prolonged wars.
Current Situation in Iran
The Iran conflict remains tense despite diplomatic efforts. The Associated Press reported no new U.S. strikes on Iran recently. However, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps announced attacks on two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, Kuwait reported intercepting drones, indicating ongoing risks of regional escalation.
