Three players, Miguel Vargas, Munetaka Murakami, and Colson Montgomery, homered in the same game for the fifth time this season. This accomplishment ties both a major-league and franchise record, achieved for the tenth time in baseball history and the second time for the franchise.

Andrew Benintendi also contributed with a home run, helping the White Sox secure a 6-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. This trio joined the ranks of Joe Crede, Paul Konerko, and José Valentín who achieved this feat in 2004 for the White Sox. The last occurrence in the major league was in 2019 by Cody Bellinger, Corey Seager, and Joc Pederson of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

White Sox manager Will Venable acknowledged the impressive performance. To have those guys in the middle of your lineup do that five times is significant, he said. It was crucial to handle a good pitcher effectively; seeing Montgomery adapt after tough at-bats against Rays starter Nick Martinez was especially rewarding.

The victory helped the White Sox extend their lead in the American League Central, pushing their advantage to three games over the Cleveland Guardians who lost 4-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In the first inning of the game, Miguel Vargas initiated the power surge with a solo home run, his 23rd of the season. This shot traveled 433 feet, with an exit velocity of 107.8 mph.

Venable commented, Vargas has been taking good swings and making smart decisions throughout the season. He is remarkably consistent in his at-bats, always creating opportunities.

In the second inning, Benintendi added his contribution with his 11th home run, a 405-foot drive. He started slower, but he’s been consistent and impactful lately, hitting the ball hard, Venable noted.

Munetaka Murakami further extended the Sox lead in the third inning with a two-run home run, his 24th of the season. He covers the entire plate, Venable said of Murakami’s performance.

The Rays managed only one run, a homer by Junior Caminero in the fourth inning. White Sox starter Erick Fedde allowed this single run amidst four hits, six strikeouts, and no walks over five innings.

Fedde remarked on his own performance and the team’s run support, I had a strong mix of pitches today, keeping them off balance. Offensively, they make my job easier by providing a cushion, allowing quality innings and additional scoring opportunities.

The White Sox completed their scoring in the sixth inning with Montgomery’s two-run homer, his 25th, pushing the lead to 6-1.

Montgomery expressed how Vargas and Murakami’s performances help relieve pressure, and emphasized, When they both start strong, we all play to our strengths, creating a formidable lineup with Benintendi also contributing. The team’s offensive synergy appears to be gaining momentum.
