Jewish Security Organization Aims to Protect Community Amid Middle East Conflict

In the face of ongoing Middle East tensions, Jewish spaces in the U.S. are vigilant against threats. Magen Am, a Jewish nonprofit, prioritizes community safety.

Recent violence in Manhattan’s Upper West Side has raised alarms. Raul Morales, 51, is in custody after allegedly stabbing two men in separate antisemitic attacks. Witnesses claim Morales shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ during these assaults. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) investigates whether these incidents classify as hate crimes.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that detectives are probing motives. Victim reports indicate Morales’s violent actions happened near West 84th Street and Central Park West, known for its significant Jewish population.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed horror at the ‘horrifying stabbings’. The victims included an Asian man and a Jewish man. Emergency responders quickly apprehended Morales, earning praise from Mamdani for their quick action.

Attacks occurred near each other. At 1:30 p.m., a 57-year-old man was stabbed in the back yet remained alert. Responders transported him to an area hospital where he stabilized. Nearby, investigators discovered a 50-year-old man with a torso wound. He too was hospitalized in stable condition.

Mental health factors are under review, Tisch noted. WABC mentioned the potential use of a knife or screwdriver in these attacks.

New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin voiced disgust over the apparent antisemitic assault. She underscored the persistent fear among Jews and emphasized the demand for safety. Menin urged unity in condemning antisemitism and accountability for the assailant.

Assembly member Micah Lasher, linked with the Jewish community, liaises with authorities. He praised the NYPD’s rapid arrest and calls for community support during recovery.

Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the senseless violence targeting Jews. She reiterated New York’s dedication to communal harmony and threatened legal action against disruptors.

Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani and the FBI for further information. Bonny Chu, a Breaking News writer for Fox News Digital, contributed to this report. This story is unfolding, and updates will follow.
