Jeff Foxworthy, a 67-year-old comedian, cleverly transformed an insult into a positive during an interview with Fox News Digital. Discussing his new stand-up special, “The Joke’s on Me,” Foxworthy recounted how someone once called him a “redneck” and he turned it into a badge of honor.
“One of the nicest compliments I received was turning what was supposed to be an insult into a badge of honor,” Foxworthy explained. He humorously remarked how rednecks would remain the same even with a billion dollars, simply owning bigger boats and trucks.
“It’s my family and friend group,” he said, “that trust me to turn these experiences into humor.”
Foxworthy started telling redneck jokes in the late ’80s, finding them wildly popular. Although he thought people might tire of them, he revisited these jokes during the Blue Collar Comedy Tour in 2003. Recently, he revived them, captivated by audience reactions.
“I hadn’t done these in 20 years, but audiences immediately responded,” Foxworthy mentioned. Bringing back the jokes felt like revisiting old favorites.
His special, “The Joke’s on Me,” available on Fox Nation, uniquely explores the joke-writing process. Inspired by a Beatles documentary, Foxworthy wanted to reveal how the struggle enhances the comedic outcome.
Foxworthy’s new special includes behind-the-scenes footage, a rarity in stand-up specials. He aimed to show unpredictable audience reactions after 40 years in comedy.
“Fox Nation was the first place that agreed to the unique format,” Foxworthy noted.
He hinted this could be his last stand-up special but assured fans it doesn’t mark the end of his stage performances. Spending more time with his grandkids and on personal projects holds high value for him now.
“After nonstop touring since 1984, it feels natural to ease back,” Foxworthy concluded, acknowledging his lasting love for stand-up.
