Federal agents have seized electronic devices belonging to former Congressman Eric Swalwell and searched his Washington D.C. residence. These actions are part of an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against the former Democratic representative from California. The devices were reportedly confiscated at the San Francisco airport, and his home was searched the following day, according to anonymous sources.
Attempts to reach Swalwell’s attorney for comments have been unsuccessful. Swalwell denies accusations of sexual assault and misconduct. The Daily Mail initially reported the seizure of his devices. This investigation follows Swalwell’s resignation from Congress in April after accusations of sexual assault and harassment surfaced.
Allegations against Swalwell include sexual misconduct claims from multiple women, citing unsolicited explicit messages and inappropriate behavior. His resignation impacted his status as a leading contender in California’s gubernatorial race.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is probing claims that Swalwell raped a former staffer at a New York hotel during a charity event in 2024. Survivors and those with knowledge of these allegations have been encouraged to reach out to their Special Victims Division.
Additionally, Lonna Drewes, another accuser, stated she was raped by Swalwell in 2018. Her attorney confirmed their cooperation with enforcement agencies investigating these matters. Drewes made her allegations public following Swalwell’s exit from the governor’s race.
Eric Swalwell, originally from Iowa, was elected to Congress in 2012, representing a district near San Francisco. He briefly pursued a presidential campaign in 2019, which did not gain traction. He was known for his opposition to former President Donald Trump, actively participating in his impeachment proceedings.
In 2023, Swalwell lost his position on the House Intelligence Committee due to interactions with suspected Chinese spy Christine Fang. Fang was involved in fundraising activities for Swalwell and allegedly made contact with him during his first congressional campaign. Swalwell claims he ceased communication with Fang in 2015 after concerns were raised by federal investigators. No wrongdoing was found during a House Ethics Committee investigation, which concluded without action.
