The Indiana Fever secured their fifth consecutive win, defeating the Portland Fire 112-98 on Friday night in Portland, Ore. Caitlin Clark’s exceptional performance, including her fourth career triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, was pivotal in the victory.

Kelsey Mitchell also contributed significantly with 26 points, matching Clark’s scoring effort. The Fever, now holding a 19-10 record, have shown strong form by winning nine of their last 11 games and consistently scoring over 100 points in their last five matches.

On the Portland side, Bridget Carleton scored 26 points. Despite their efforts, the Fire have hit a rough patch, losing their last four games and dropping to an 11-18 record.

The Fever took control in the third quarter, extending their lead to 18 points and entering the fourth quarter with a 90-72 advantage. Makayla Timpson’s layup opened the fourth quarter, increasing the lead to 10 points. Although Portland narrowed the gap, the Fever maintained their composure. Carleton’s 3-pointer brought Portland within 10 points, but Clark’s crucial free throws secured the game at 110-96 with a minute remaining.

A pregame rally at the Moda Center supported Sophie Cunningham following her remarks on excluding transgender athletes from women’s sports. During the game, the audience booed Cunningham, yet she quickly scored a 3-pointer, contributing to the Fever’s early lead. Cunningham concluded the game with 13 points.

The match was a sellout, with a record attendance of 19,959 at the arena. The Fever will next face the Minnesota team on Sunday, while the Fire will host Los Angeles the same day.
